On our first day in cairns we went for a trip to the atherton tablelands. There you can find beautiful nature, the highest mountains of queensland and stunning waterfalls. The nature reminds me of home, only with the slight difference that we don’t have all those palm and rainforest trees.
We started from Cairns to Yungaburra and on this way we had to drive on the curviest street in Australia – this was horrible for me (because i get car sick very easily). On our way we stopped at Lake Barrine where i saw the biggest and tallest tree i’ve ever seen. Our next stop was the curtain fig tree, which is amazing! Basically it’s not a tree, it’s many small roots that encroached into the family tree.
Waterfalls
After those awesome rainforest experiences we made our way to the Millaa Millaa, Zillie and Ellinjaa falls. All three waterfalls are on a lookout drive, that’s why we visited them all. The Millaa Millaa falls look amazing and i went for a swim. The Zillie falls can only be looked at from the top, which is not that cool and the Ellinjaa falls are really beautiful in the middle of a forest. After visiting those three, we went to the Josephine Falls, which are amazingly beautiful! Those were my favorites and i’m sure you can take a nice bath in them, but i left my clothes in the car, so i was just climbing around on the lianas.
Babinda-Steine
I wanted to stay longer at that place, but we also wanted to visit the babinda-stones, which are polished by the water. I think that they look nice, but you’re not allowed to get down to them because they’re slippery and a lot of people died and got injured when climbing on them. Afterwards we made our way back to cairns.
