Who’s not dreaming of seeing the stunning Grand Canyon once in his or her life? Of course we had to plan a short trip to that natural spectacle.
If you’re coming from the south, you can go to the South Rim, if you’re coming from Vegas, you more likely will go the the West or North Rim. The south rim is the place which is probably visited by more people.
Accommodation
As we’ve were planning some time visiting the Grand Canyon, we were sleeping in the Grand Canyon village for a night. There aren’t that many options for accommodations there, because the village is built of some hotels and an imax cinema. We were choosing the cheapest option (Best Western) and we couldn’t have been happier with it.
Grand Canyon
Visiting the Grand Canyon by car is very convenient, because you can just drive on the scenic drive and stopping wherever you’d like to stop. There’s a shuttle going between all the stopps and the village, if you prefer going by bus. I can totally recommend, going some steps into the canyon, because the view is fantastic from there. What i can also recommend, is the Tusayan Museum, where you can have a detailed look at how the canyon was “built” and the “Hermit’s Rest” – the last stop that you can visit on the South Rim.
Valley of Fire
After having seen the Grand Canyon, we were going to Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon and on our way back to the west (to Vegas), we were stopping at the Valley of fire.
The Valley of fire surely has its name because of the colors of the stone – everything is glowing in all different shades of red which is impressive. We’ve been going up to the valley of fire from the south, continuing to the north. On our way we were able to spot the elephant rock and some other interesting and funny sculptures. What’s really annoying me is the fact, that we didn’t have a look at the Wave Rock, because we just didn’t inform ourselves enough before going there. Attention: You have to pay a fee, if you want to cross the park.
