Finally – in 2 weeks the skiworldcup will be held in Upper Austria, not far from my home – in Hinterstoder. Hinterstoder is the ski resort i’ve always been to as a child and I’m also going sometimes for a day skiing now.
Hinterstoder has a beautiful landscape and i finally had some time to visit the beautiful nature there. I walked round the Schiederweiher right at that time when Austria presented itself as a beautiful winterwonderland.
What’s the “Schiederweiher”?
It’s an artificially created lake, which resulted from daming up the river Steyr. The lake lies in the middle of the “Polsterlucke”, a valley where you have a beautiful view on the “Priel” (mountain).
Getting there & The walk
I was going by car, which is really easily – you go to Hinterstoder and keep going after the village ends and after a kilometre you will find a parking area (Parking fee!). From there you can walk to the Schiederweiher and the Polsterlucke. The walk is very easy and you will find signs for the right way all the time. In the Polsterlucke there’s also a restaurant, so if you’re hungry from walking, you can go for some austrian food there.
The day i was there we had nearly fullmoon and the moon showed itself when i was going back to the car – very beautiful.
I’ll go there in summer again and maybe i’ll also walk up the Priel once, we’ll see. I can’t wait for the skiworldcup in Hinterstoder (I guess you all know that i love skiing and watching skiiraces) and i’m very excited that i’ll be able to be there and present Upperaustria.
