My younger self was crazy into books, making my mum nuts by always reading until 2am under my bedlinen with a torch, so she cannot see it. I’ve always been interested in reading about stories, where I can feel the magic and empathize with one of the characters. I’ve had time where I had to put a book on the side because I was just not getting the right spirit for it.
When Nicole, the author of “Girls who travel” was asking me if i’m feeling like reading her book and telling her my opinion, I was looking forward to doing so. The title was catching my eye and I was really excited to see how the book would be like.
I have the utmost respect for girls who travel alone, because it’s hard work sometimes. But girls, we want adventures. We want international best friends and hold-your-breath vistas out of crappy hostel windows.
Already after a few pages I was empathizing with the main character Kika and her life. I don’t want to tell you too much about the story, but I want to give you a brief summary. Kika is having the travel blues and is arriving back in Long Island after doing a world tour for some time. She is starting a new job in New York, to be able to safe some money for other travels and her desire to starting an online shop. Due to some circumstances she ends up going to London for working there and in the beautiful city she is trying to find her own luck and figure out life. After a while she is having some of the typical troubles you might slip into when you’re living abroad, but she is also finding out that adventures are not only happening when you’re on the go.
Humour, charme, different places, a lot of moments I could find myself in and a lovestory. I really liked the book and can recommend it to anybody, specially to people living abroad or going to live abroad. If your life is just a slightly bit similar to mine, you will also find yourself in how Kika is describing life abroad.
I was moving to London, where people said “Cheers, love” and where the alphabet ended in “zed”. I felt like my life is moving in the right direction again – I can’t believe I’m getting this opportunity.

All girls who travel know that it’s not about arriving, it’s the getting there that’s the good part.
Something to say in the end: Yes, Nicole asked me if I want to read the book and write about it on my blog. If I would not be satisfied with it, you wouldn’t read about it here now.
